Description

Heady floral aromatics of white peach, sweet lemon and purple flowers melt into the plush but refined palate displaying white and yellow orchard fruits, preserved lemon, lemon oil, cashew meal, green mango, fine acidity and delicate phenolics that drives to the finish. Subtle and integrated oak heightens the complexity of this beautifully balanced, powerful and structured wine that finishes with great length.

This vintage produced wines of excellent structure that will cellar well.

95 POINTS - HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION

'The colour is so-so, but not so the wine. It's energising, buoyed by refreshing acidity as much as juicy, tangy fruit. Neatly set into a medium-bodied palate with an array of cherries, raspberries and woodsy spices, with some savoury touches, it's neatly composed and satisfying. Best in youth, but it will hang around for a few years yet.' - Jane Faulkner 13 August 2021

REGION

Highbow Hill Vineyard is 40 hectares planted on rolling hills just north of Yarra Glen township. The soils are sandy loam over clay and gravel over Yarra Valley mudstone. Most of the vines were planted in 1998. Handpicked Wines has invested heavily in the property, planting new blocks in 2015, 2016 and 2018; erecting new fencing to protect the fruit from kangaroos and other wildlife and generally upgrading viticultural practices to realise the best potential of this exceptional site.

WINEMAKING

Hand-harvested from 20-year-old vines and whole-bunch pressed. Wild yeast fermented in French oak barriques -a mix of new and seasoned oak -and puncheons for 11 months.
