Discover the Power of Sonic Seasoning with Our New ‘Taste the Symphony’ Gift Pack
At Handpicked Wines, we’ve always been fascinated by the many layers that shape a wine experience — aroma, texture, place, and moment. Recently, we’ve been exploring another dimension that can influence flavour in surprising ways: sound.
This season, we’re excited to introduce our new ‘Taste the Symphony’ gift pack, created in partnership with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. This curated set brings the worlds of wine and music together through the concept of sonic seasoning, inviting you to discover how sound can elevate what’s in your glass.
What’s Inside the Pack
The gift pack features three of our latest cool-climate releases from Tasmania:
- Collection Tasmania Sparkling Cuvée
- Trial Batch Riesling
- Trial Batch Pinot Gris
Each wine has been paired with a symphony performed by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. A QR code inside the pack leads to the performance, allowing you to sip along as you listen.
Detailed tasting notes guide you through each pairing, exploring how melody, rhythm and pitch interact with flavour, aroma and texture — and why certain musical qualities heighten brightness, enhance structure, or soften edges on the palate.
Exploring Sonic Seasoning
While food pairings are well understood, the role of sound in shaping taste remains a largely untapped frontier. Sonic seasoning examines how music can influence flavour perception, and this project has given us a chance to bring that idea to life in an accessible, engaging way.
As our Chief Winemaker, Peter Dillon, notes: “Sensory context is everything. While food pairings are well-explored, the influence of sound is an often overlooked element in getting the most out of a wine.”
A Partnership Built on Creativity
This collaboration builds on our ongoing partnership with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, where we proudly serve as a Fine Wine Partner and Presenting Partner of the Orchestra’s Cocktail Hour concert series.
Benjamin Moh, Head of Corporate Relations at the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, reflects on the project: “Together, we’ve paired three defining movements from our ARIA chart-topping recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with three exceptional Handpicked wines, creating a multi-sensory experience not to be missed.”
