Description

This is a delicately balanced cool climate Chardonnay with bright fruit, racy natural acidity and taut structure. A leaner style Chardonnay, reflecting its Tasmanian provenance, it has juicy lemon and fine white peach fruit notes and mouth-watering acidity. The oak character is restrained, adding light notes of nougat and nuts. This wine has all the requisites to soften, integrate and mature beautifully over the next 10 or more years.

92 POINTS - THE REAL REVIEW

'Pale lemon with lime tints in the glass. Green apple, feijoa and oyster shell aromatics. Tight and grippy on entry with bright acidity over grapefruit pith and feijoa fruits. Good length as that bright acidity drives it whilst the finish offers a complex saline and butterscotch note that adds appeal' Stuart Knox

REGION

Tamar Valley, TAS, Australia.

This wine was grown at our Auburn Road Vineyard - on the west bank of the river has weathered basalt soils with mineral variation that produces great flavour complexity. NASAA Organic Certified site since November 2022.

WINEMAKING

The grapes were harvested in the cool morning before overnight refrigerated transport to Capella Vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula ready for a gentle whole bunch press. The wine was fermented with wild yeast in a mix of new and seasoned Burgundian puncheon barrels, after which partial malolactic fermentation contributed to this wine's delicate acidity and balance. Post fermentation, this Chardonnay was matured in the same barrels for 11 months before blending.
