Description

We’ve found the perfect balance with this rosé - fruit and spice, light and depth, crisp and generous, fun and polished.

The wine is a brilliant pale salmon colour with orange tinges typical of Nebbiolo. Pretty aromas of rose petals and dried spices follow through on the palate, joined by red fruits, notes of almond kernel, and a touch of distinctive Nebbiolo grip. The clean finish has you reaching for another glass.

92 POINTS - HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION

'For me, the finest rosés in the country are hewn of this northern Italian variety: a spindle of edgy tannin and frisky acidity, capable of curtailing Australia's unavoidable onslaught of fruit. A gentle salmon hue, in this case. Musk stick, slate, sour cherry and cumquat. lightweighted and thirst-slaking.' Ned Goodwin

SEASON

The 2019 season was warm and very dry, leading to an early harvest. Diligent and continuous attention was required for optimum water and canopy management. The timing of harvest was crucial for outstanding fruit with excellent depth of flavour and balance.

WINEMAKING

This fruit was grown by the John family at its Malakoff Estate Vineyard in Landsborough. Handpicked Wines has worked with the John family for several years and we appreciate their meticulous vineyard and their willingness to work with us on the finer details to produce top quality fruit.

The fruit was handpicked then refrigerated to retain freshness. Seeking an aromatic, bright and lightly coloured wine, we pressed in whole bunches, extracting just enough colour during the gentle press.

The wine was briefly matured in stainless steel tank and bottled soon after ferment to retain freshness, aroma and delicate fruit flavours.
